Call For Action has received many complaints in recent years over errors in cashless tolling systems. Our Greensboro, North Carolina affiliates at WFMY report on a driver who had moved away from the Greensboro area to Florida eight years ago, only to get a mysterious collection notice about a camera ticket in far-away Virginia. The camera ticket correctly identified their old North Carolina license plate number, but they hadn’t had that particular license plate since they moved away. The family contacted WFMY’s Call 4 Action team, and after some investigation it was determined that the company who used photo recognition to assess the toll had made a mistake, identifying the license plate number as belonging to North Carolina when the plate was actually from Wisconsin. In the end, the charges were reversed and the family won’t have to pay.
