Our Madison, Wisconsin partners at WISC News 3 report on a woman who paid thousands of dollars to an online dating site and had a poor customer experience. After a tragic year when she lost both her husband and mother, the woman signed a $4,000 contract with the dating site Wisconsin Singles for their help finding her a companion. After setting her up with one bad date and beginning to set her up with a second person, the company became unresponsive, avoiding her phone calls until she contacted the Better Business Bureau. BBB’s website lists 48 complaints against Wisconsin Singles, and none are reported to have received refunds. The company still refused to provide a refund, citing a three-day cancellation policy in their contract. After News 3’s Call for Action volunteers contacted the company, shortly before this news story aired, Wisconsin Singles offered a partial, $2,000 refund to the customer, though the company still claims that it fulfilled its contractual obligations.
