Tips to keep in mind when choosing a credit card:

  1. Know your credit score.  You can then search for cards that line up with your score.  It’s a factor you can consider without overthinking.
  2. Decide what type of card you need.  Depending on your personal situation, you can pick a card to build credit, save on interest, or maximize rewards.
  3. Know what you want to get back.  Decide if you want your credit card to give you rewards, travel, or cash back and select a card that gives you what you want the most.

Whichever card you choose, make sure you’re using your card wisely.  If you choose to carry a balance rather than pay it off every month, experts recommend you limit your carried balance to 30% of your credit limit.  Exceeding that will cost you more interest and could hurt your credit score.
