Potential renters around Honolulu should be on guard for online rental scams. The Hawaii Office of Consumer Protection has already reported half a dozen complaints in the last few weeks.
Scammers will generally find the information for a real property and put it on a site like Craigslist, fraudulently claiming to be the owner. When a victim contacts them to rent the property, the scammer will make up an excuse for not being able to meet them in person and ask the victim to wire them money for keys.
