A Providence woman wants her aging husband to receive a military burial when the time comes, as befitting his service in the Korean War. The only problem was that the couple couldn’t find any documents with confirmation of military service, until Call 12 For Action reported on their problem.
Within twenty four hours of a news piece of the couple’s dilemma airing, a document from 1958 in the husband’s handwriting was uncovered, confirming his military service. The search had been especially difficult for the woman as her husband’s Alzheimer’s makes it impossible for him to remember details about his time in Korea. The original documents were most likely destroyed in 1973, when the National Personnel Records Center burned down.
