Sometimes an offer that seems too good to be true just might be. When a Colorado Springs woman received a call, purportedly from the Federal Reserve, offering her a grant of nine thousand dollars, she felt like it was the answer to her prayers. In reality, it was a scam. The woman wound up getting swindled out of nine hundred dollars, money the scammers claimed she needed to pay them before she could get her larger payment.

To avoid falling for a similar scam, you should always check to make sure that the grant is legitimate. Almost all federal grants require an application; so if a call seems out-of-the-blue, it is most likely a scam.
