Our partners at WXYZ 7 Action News in Detroit helped a disabled veteran who had been left in sweltering heat for nearly two weeks without a working air conditioner in his apartment.
The veteran had repeatedly requested to apartment management that his air conditioner be repaired over the course of two weeks during a July heat wave. According to the veteran, management told him to stop calling and informed him that they wanted him to move out when his lease ended in October.
After he contacted 7 Action News, management abruptly changed its approach. With advance notice that TV cameras were coming, a heating and cooling technician began working shortly before Channel 7’s cameras arrived, and the air conditioning was working again a few hours later.
