Our partners at WPRI in Providence, Rhode Island heard from two workers who struggled to get paid by their employer after it temporarily closed.  Both had worked for the same cleaning company, which closed after the summer, and have been waiting for their final paychecks.  Call 12 For Action was able to reach the owner, but he claimed the final checks had been issued.  However, the owner had separately texted one of the employees confirming she was still awaiting payment.  A follow-up conversation finally confirmed that the outstanding check had been reissued, while the owner of the company claimed that the other employee’s paycheck had been returned in the mail without a forwarding address.  Both workers reported the cleaning company to the Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training, which was unable to address the current cases but confirmed the company had been the source of another wage complaint in 2016.
